Local Conference of Youth

The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Nigeria 2024 is part of the global LCOY initiative under YOUNGO, the youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It aims to engage Nigerian youth in climate action and advocacy, providing a platform for them to articulate solutions and influence policy discussions at both national and global levels. The event also contributes to the Global Youth Statement, which is presented at the Conference of the Parties (COP), ensuring youth perspectives are included in international climate negotiations.

The Community Advocates for Rural Development (CARD), a Bauchi-based NGO, played a significant role in organizing the LCOY Nigeria 2024. CARD facilitated discussions, workshops, and initiatives that focused on grassroots involvement, amplifying the voices of young people in rural areas. Their efforts were geared towards bridging knowledge gaps in climate action and encouraging youth-led solutions to climate challenges. As a result, a national youth statement was development and presented at COP29 IN Ajerbaizan,Baku.
